Gynecomastia

Gynecomastia refers to enlarged breast tissue in men. Although all men have a small amount of breast tissue, gynecomastia causes it to grow excessively — typically beneath the nipple-areola complex — creating a fuller or more feminine-appearing chest. True gynecomastia caused by glandular tissue does not resolve with diet or exercise alone. The physical changes can affect confidence and comfort, leading many men to avoid fitted shirts or being shirtless. At Advanced Breast Care Consultants, we offer effective, discreet surgical treatment to restore a flatter, more defined chest.

What Causes Gynecomastia?

Gynecomastia can result from several factors, though most men affected are otherwise completely healthy. Contributing factors include:

  • Hormonal imbalances or increased estrogen levels
  • Excess body fat, which can raise estrogen
  • Anabolic steroid use
  • Certain medications and supplements
  • It's most common in teenagers (often temporary) and men over 50

How Gynecomastia Surgery Works

Surgery is tailored to the type of gynecomastia. Excess fat is removed with liposuction, while denser glandular tissue is excised through a small, hidden incision beneath the areola — avoiding additional scars. If excess skin remains, it may be removed to achieve a flat, masculine contour. A compression garment supports healing for about a week, and results improve steadily over time. Our surgeons focus on a natural, defined result with the least visible scarring possible.
